What is Yardstick?

Yardstick is a small Utility, which helps you to measure anything, you can display on your screen. You draw a line or a polygon across the document to measure and Yardstick tells you the overall length and the area enclosed by the polygon.

Starting Yardstick will create an transparent layer over your entire screen, where you can draw lines or polygons. A small panel shows you the length of the aggregated polygon segments, the area enclosed by the polygon and the angle of the last line segment.

Yardstick can be calibrated to any scale, either by measuring a distance of known dimension or by entering the resolution of the document.

The accuracy of the measurement depends mainly on the exactness of the point placement. Naturally, careful calibration is crucial. It can be helpful to zoom in using ctrl and the scrollball to improve precision, when placing the points.

An alternative is Yardstick Plus, which adds a zoomed view for more exact placement of polygon segments and an editor for measuring units.
